Pebbles
Description:
TEECA-East student participants are typically on the front edge of their careers – preparing to embark on professional paths that will drive them to pursue new opportunities and accomplish things that they may never imagined. Many TEECA-East college students are pursuing teaching degrees that could lead to opportunities as Technology & Engineering Educators or STEM Educators. Some participants may pursue other fields that they are impassioned about. Regardless of paths chosen, there are some bits of advice – or reminders – that you should heed as you set forth on this career journey. As a newly retired professor, I have pondered these “pebbles” from my lifetime experiences, and I look forward to sharing them with you as you navigate your own paths.
Bio:
Sharon Brusic is an educator who devoted her career to teaching – particularly Technology & Engineering education and integrative STEM education. In May 2024, she retired from Millersville University of Pennsylvania after 21 years. Prior to that, she taught at Virginia Tech, Kent State University (Ohio), Illinois State University, and Kate Collins Middle School (Virginia). Sharon is the author of more than 70 publications, including 6 editions of a textbook and 12 nonfiction children’s books. She has delivered more than 50 presentations at conferences, workshops, and professional events. Throughout her career, she championed the importance of hands-on, experiential learning as a necessary component of every child’s education. Along the way, she encountered “pebbles” that impeded her path, and other “pebbles” that served as stepping stones to a fully rewarding and enjoyable career – and life. Sharon is the mother of two adult daughters, and she is married for 33 years to her husband – a high school technology & engineering education teacher. In retirement, she is enjoying the extra time to cook, read, play word games, and catch up on all the Netflix series she’s missed over the years.
